September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
We will be walking at the Light the Night event on UT campus this month to raise money and awareness for LLS research. Plan to join us on Oct 25 at 5:30pm. Hadley will be wearing her SURVIVOR tshirt and carrying a white lantern.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
When we started this journey, we never thought a day like today was possible. A day that could only be made possible by God, family and friends. A community of people built out of love. While others forge ahead with treatment, we will continue to support and give encouragement. Love, hope, belief, determination and strength are only a few words but the armor comes from God. Today is a day we now know is possible, the day Hadley will take her last dose of pills, for today is the end. God Bless us all.
Spinal tap and chemo went smooth and we are waiting on her to wake up. I am happy to say that this is the last spinal tap. We are officially down to the last treatment in July. It is hard to imagine that we are this close. While challenges in life seem so difficult, if you believe, great things can happen. Stay strong, have faith and never stop believing.
Two years ago today, I took our little girl to the doctor for the fourth time in a month, hoping they would tell me she was fine and Jonathan and I could go ahead with our couples trip to NYC the next day.
Instead, it felt like time slowed down, the doctors started speaking in some foreign language and we found ourselves heading to Children’s Hospital.
God is so good, her spirit is so strong and your support is so tangible. These three things are what have kept us afloat. Without these, we may have sunk or be lost, adrift…
Please continue to pray with us that she remains healthy through the end of treatment in July!
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
While I struggle sometimes with what to say, I sometimes have clarity. Sometimes it takes time to process and remember that we should not be afraid and that we will be tested, tested we are at times, in many ways. Today I want to tell you about Hadley’s Uncle Joey (my brother). At the age of 52, he is diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Prostate Cancer. In the midst of tragedy, great blessings can happen if you look hard enough. Remember this…. You are much more than a statistic….. You are much more than a statistic….. Age has nothing to do with the blessings that can be received.
While we may encounter life’s stormy seas, the storm shall pass and the wind of God’s grace with fill our sails. One thing that I know, so many deal with cancer. We pray for everyone that is touched by cancer. We pray that God shows you the blessings in the midst of tragedy. Please look for the blessings, it is out there, it is so present if you allow it. To all of you dealing with struggles, hold on, the storm shall pass. God will fill your sail.
“90 percent of all success is believing”
If something is wrong, make it right. If it is bad, look for the good. Take each day and make it the best, you may not have tomorrow. While cancer is horrible, it cannot take away love, love is greater than any cancer.
We are excited to be adding another restaurant to our list of partners offering meals to families of sick children at ETCH in their first week of leukemia diagnosis. If you’re looking for a specialty pizza, go see Kevin, Scott and their crew at Brenz on Cumberland. They have big hearts and delicious pizzas! That’s a great combination.
While Good Friday also is Chemo Friday, each day we have hope. While we are only one family of many that deals with the daily struggle of Leukemia, we continue to pray for all those going through the same struggles. We are honored to provide a little comfort to families through Hearts for Hadley. Take the time to remember why Good Friday exists and let’s continue to be thankful for all that God gives us.
