hadleyis5It is hard to believe that this little girl is 5 years old today. It is also hard to believe that we are fast approaching 1 year mark of Leukemia diagnosis. What a blessing she has been and so proud of how she has handled everything that has been thrown at her. We are also tremendously blessed by family, friends and community.

“May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace.”

If we are lucky, we get the gift from God to be parents. Days like today make me reflect on the joy God has granted me as a father. I had the fortune of experiencing the joy of what a father would be with Christine L Coker. A young lady that cared for our children, became a corner pillar of our family. The joy of watching a young lady grow up and the pride of who she would become.
Hadley is now 5. I so look forward to seeing her path in life. She has such great examples in her grandmothers, mother and big sister Christine. On birthdays, may all the fathers take time to reflect on the joy that God gives and the special gift that children give us. A bond that forever binds us.

childrenshospitalClinic today… While the treatment can be tough, the nurses are a joy. They always sing and play with Hadley. God truly placed these nurses in the right occupation.

zoojanuaryKids fun run at the zoo this morning. Hadley ran the 1 mile race and only walked twice and that was because there were walking zones… It made a father proud to run with her this morning.

None of us are immune

Well, this Halloween was better than the last. Hadley made it an hour at the church “Trunk or Treat” but just could not do the next day for Halloween. When you miss school and Halloween, we know she just does not feel good. This is not just about one little girl, this is also about all the other children who miss Halloween because of Leukemia. We hope and pray that everyone had a great Halloween and we know that next Halloween will be a great one.

None of us are immune to a child getting sick. It is never easy for any parent to watch a child throw up and be scared. We all deal with this being a parent. It is one of those weeks for Hadley, she just is having a rough week. Chemo, steroids, antibiotics and the list goes on. What do you do when a little girl says “my brain hurts mommy, my body hurts? But, this is not just about Hadley…. We pray for Hadley but we also pray for all the children that are dealing with any sickness (big or small). We also pray for the parents that are at the side of the children. It takes a village but it also takes faith. God gave us so much but all he asks for is faith.

1 John 5:13

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
